A Little Woman

The Story of Amy Mak Chan

A moving tale of resilience, legacy, and triumph

A Little Woman is a captivating and deeply inspiring true story that follows the life of Amy Mak Chan, a determined and resilient woman who transforms a failing funeral home into a lasting family legacy. Born into a poor family in Guangzhou, China, and raised in a rooftop shack in Hong Kong, Amy leaves middle school to work in factories to help support her family. Despite these challenging early years, her strong-willed mother becomes her guiding light, instilling in her the values of hard work, responsibility, and perseverance.

As Amy discovers her passion for singing, she embarks on a successful stage career, yet her mother’s influence keeps her grounded. After marrying an older businessman, Amy moves to New York City, where unexpected circumstances lead her to take over her husband’s struggling funeral business. With unwavering determination, she transforms the company, facing numerous challenges and learning invaluable lessons along the way.

Through her perseverance, courage, and dedication, Amy builds a powerful legacy within the Chinese American community and becomes an enduring inspiration for others to follow.
